Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player won his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after spring of that year.
Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had led observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.
Moutet saved 4 early break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
